About us
Volunteer Tibet is a Tibetan non-profit registered charitable organization under the society act 5473 with the section 12A of the income tax act, 1961 under the central government of India based in Delhi and Dharamsala. It started at the university level then to the Tibetan community. It was officially launched on December 10th 2002.
It started with the help of many volunteers and local Tibetans commemorating the Anniversary of the Nobel Peace award for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Since inception we have received interest from literally thousands of people and enabled a diverse group of volunteers from all over the world to share their skills in the Tibetan community.
The inspiring result of our efforts has been the devotion of thousands of hours of volunteer service to a wide range of projects in the Tibetan volunteer organization that serves all organizations in the Dharamsala area. Offices of the Tibetan Government in Exile, NGOs such as: the Tibetan Centre For Human Rights And Democracy and the Tibetan Women's Association, Cultural organizations: Cultural Performing Arts and the Tibetan Library, and Awareness groups such as: the Democratic Party of Tibet and the Tibetan Youth Congress have all received skilled assistance from Volunteer Tibet.
But perhaps more important is the service we offer – providing ways for volunteers to give themselves and to absorb and experience the rich culture of Tibet. Most inspiring has been the exchange taking place between volunteers and members of this small community and the lasting bonds that have developed, connecting Tibet with the rest of the world, person by person.
